Rebecca Cynamon-Murphy

Blogger, hostess, feminist, and wanna-be advocate for marginalized people. I am the Christian partner of a newly-created interfaith marriage and have found a home in the Emergent movement because it acknowledges that every individual's experience colors his or her picture and experience with God. I find myself drawn to people who have the courage to admit they are imperfect and can deepen their spiritual practice because of it. I try to accomplish this myself with varying success.

Student Pastor/Intern from McCormick Theological Seminary. I read and write for fun when I’m not too busy reading and writing for school. I love curling (yeah, the weird sport with the rocks and brooms), and learning languages (though English is the only one I speak fluently). I’m a former Peace Corps volunteer, and I make a pretty great chocolate chip cookie. I love Wicker Park Grace because it’s a place where honest questions are always welcome, where together we can wrestle with a God who is too big for easy answers.

Nice person who tries to do the right thing. I like to think about God and what meaning we can find here in life. I help people whenever I can. Wicker Park Grace is my spiritual vessel, as I ride the river of life. Great people surround me there and I feel at home and accepted.

Pastor, writer, spiritual artist, learner, lover of God and God's people. I also crochet, love to sing and go for long walks (although I don't go on enough of them.) I learn how to be a better person at Wicker Park Grace and I appreciate the opportunity to make mistakes and try again, and still be accepted through it all.

Artist? Activist? Yes. Sometimes though, I just lay on the couch, listen to music and read. I am an artist, sometimes a musician, a photographer who believes that the pursuit of social justice, equality, human rights, the arts, multi-culture, community, intentional spirituality and exploring alternative religious practices are a way of life. Wicker Park Grace provides that for us, for me, and it's very exiting to be a part of something new which we can all continue to shape.

I do not come from a religious family or background. But I slowly began exploring my religious and spiritual identity after meeting my wife, Jessi, who comes from a very religious family. Together we have continued our spiritual journey and struggled together with questions of God, justice, meaning and religion despite having vastly different backgrounds. Wicker Park Grace is the perfect home for us because here each individual can pursue their own spiritual and religious path regardless of background or beliefs while being in community with others. My hope for the community is that it continues to grows in vibrancy and energy and that this empowers us to delve into deep relationships and act for transformation in our lives and in the world.
